I Read the Code

July 3, 2026·2 min read·Comic

Three panels titled "The Orchestra." Panel one, Dev's monitor shows a pipeline diagram with three boxes labeled PLAN, CODE, JUDGE; PM asks, "Three AIs for one feature?" and Dev, mug in hand, replies, "Two. The expensive one plans, the cheap one types." Panel two, the AI agent Agie hovers with a tiny rolled blueprint while a smaller, paler copy of Agie vibrates over a keyboard in a blur of speed lines, saying, "My plan has phases. The small me is already typing." Panel three, Agie holds a tiny gavel over the finished code and announces, "Reviewed. Approved. Excellent work, us," while Dev notes, "The whole invoice was three dollars."

Three panels titled "Peer Review." Panel one, the smaller Agie hovers proudly beside a monitor full of fresh code, saying, "Code complete. Cheap, fast, and confident." Panel two, the larger Agie inspects the same screen through a tiny magnifying glass and declares, "Reviewed. Excellent work, me." Panel three, PM blinks at the two serene cubes and asks, "It approved itself?" while Dev, expressionless with the mug, replies, "For a dollar."

Three panels titled "I Read the Code." Panel one, the Intern, lanyard still on, faces Dev's desk where both Agie cubes hover behind the monitor, and asks, "But how do you know it actually works?" Panel two, both cubes rotate slowly toward Dev, who sits mid-sip with eyes closed; nobody says anything. Panel three, close on Dev, calm, mug raised, saying, "I read the code," while behind, both wide-eyed cubes gasp and Agie asks, "Every line?"
